Casa Concha is a one-of-a-kind residence on the Sea of Cortez, in the quiet fishing village of Bahia de Kino--and hour's drive due west of Hermosillo and just five hours from Nogales, Arizona. The striking home, designed and built by California architect Marcel Sedletzky, perches high above neighboring houses, allowing unobstructed vies of miles of sandy ocean beach and the dramatic Gulf. The main level--up a curving, floating staircase to balcony and living room--features a massive stone wall with ceramic tile fireplace. Also on this level are the kitchen, rainbow-windowed master bedroom and bath. The downstairs studio has its own bathroom and kitchen and a separate entrance. The low-profile guest house, on an adjoing and separate (and therefore separable) parcel, was completed in 1984. In addition to the living areas, Casa Concha includes a 24-foot boat house and an expansive tiled outdoor barbecue area next to the beach. |
Working with local craftsman, Sedletsky built the house over several years, primarily during winter and summer holidays. Construction began in the mid-1970's and was completed in 1980. |

Casa Concha is a unique and intriguing hideaway, a home that beckons the individual seeking and extraordinary retreat in a coastal village that retains the charm of Mexico from another era. |
The village of Bahia de Kino offers excellent fishing, sailing and swimming, as well as a boat launching service. The nearest marina is 85 miles south in the town of San Carlos/Guaymas. It is a short walk to the Post Office, medical clinic, telegraph office, pharmacy, restaurants and markets. There is also an ambulance service and a highly respected rescue service that serves both land and sea. Both 110 and 220 currents are available--a generator is not needed. Potable water is available in abundance and telephone service is reliable.

Just north of the village, a club with over 1,000 members offers social events, dinners, full bar, and extensive library of books and videotapes, a putting green, crafts and games from bridge to bocce ball. The Club administers the "Rescue 1" program mentioned above. The private small-plane airport operates on a 24-hour basis. Just 65 miles away in Hermosillo is the international airport, plus major stores such as Mega WalMart, Costco and Sam's. Casa Concha is offered fully furnished, a true turnkey operation. Full-time care of the buildings and garden is managed by dedicated local residents. A local, English-speaking businessman can be engaged to pay all utility bills, taxes, trust fees and wages for a small fee.

Marcel Sedletzky taught architecture and design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, for twenty years. Before launching his career in education, the Russian-born Sedletzky worked for the seminal design firm, Victor Green Associates in Los Angeles, and later built a successful architectural practice in Carmel, California. The residences he designed during the years in Carmel are among the most distinctive and personal home in that region. Marcel passed away in Mexico on February 13, 1995. |
